Reading back, it surprised me how applicable last year's recap is to this year. I suppose that's to be expected with Robyn following in Henry's footsteps. She can now walk and talk of course, but is also as strong-willed as he is. We love her physicality, cheeky grin and impressive ability to put away food. She adores Henry and he returns her cuddles occasionally if she hasn't stolen any of his prize possessions recently.
Henry is at a new nursery which has him exploring the outdoors a lot more. We're very happy with it and Robyn will join him once she turns 2 in March. He spends barely 10% of any day as Henry, preferring to method act as Mr Tod, Sir Gadabout or Kiki. We're excited to see if this passion will continue into school productions and other performing arts pursuits further down the line. He will start school in September as probably the youngest in his year. We're optimistic about the learning and routine but a little apprehensive about tiredness and confidence.
Sam's once dream job has continued its regression towards the industry norm post-acquisition. Mass lay-offs, knee-jerk decision making and a lack of transparency are just about counterbalanced by some wonderful colleagues and a generous grandfathered salary. Sam misses exercise thanks to relentless nursery-borne illnesses but occasionally has time to enjoy a board game with friends.
When the kids are well enough, Emily has the luxury of half a day to herself once a week! She has mostly spent it planting trees in our field and bouldering with a friend, roping Sam in sometimes too. We both look forward to slowly improving together over the coming year. We had a fantastic time at Dance Camp as always, where Em found slightly more time than last year to participate between childcare and running the show.
Despite coming to the realisation that, with toddlers, holidays can be more exhausting than regular days, we've enjoyed visits to York, The World of Beatrix Potter, Warwick Castle, Wake The Tiger and many friends and family. Thank you to everyone who has hosted us and come to see us in Sheffield! We're hoping to return to house improvements in 2025 so we can host more of you!
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year. Much love,
Sam, Emily, Henry, Robyn & Meg
